Our Founder

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW FIRM

The PatentXL Law Firm was founded on January 1, 2024, by Ramón Urteaga, a seasoned intellectual property ("IP) attorney with almost two decades of experience in the counseling, registration and litigation of patents, trademarks, and copyrights.

After practicing at a large IP firm for several years and thereafter in-house for a multinational, Ramón recognized a persistent challenge: many IP practices prioritize volume over substance, resulting in weak patents and trademarks, costly rejections, and diminished asset value. Determined to deliver work product that withstands scrutiny—before the USPTO, in litigation, and in the marketplace—he launched PatentXL as a boutique firm dedicated to technical rigor, strategic depth, and long-term client success.

Starting as a solo practice in the Philadelphia suburbs, PatentXL has grown from a solo practice to a team of dedicated IP practitioners. From our first patent filing to today, we’ve maintained a disciplined approach:

No high-volume caseloads

Pre-filing technical and legal audits

Clear, defensible claims and specifications

Client education as a core service

Today, we represent inventors, startups, and established companies across the U.S. and internationally in patent, trademark, and copyright matters. Growth continues—but never at the expense of quality.

At PatentXL, excellence isn’t a slogan. It is our "why." It is our standard.
